  • What do I need to know about beneficiaries?

    • A beneficiary is a person or company that you are sending money to.

    • Please make sure that you’ve got the right details for your beneficiary before you finalise a transfer. 

    • Add potential repeat beneficiaries to your online recipient list to store their details securely for the next time.

    • Manage your payment history online with up to 999 beneficiaries. 

  • What types of payments can I make online?

    • Payments to pre-listed beneficiaries like Telkom, SARS, your local municipality and traffic fines

    • Once-off payments. 

    • Recurring payments. 

    • Future-dated payments. 

    • Payments to multiple beneficiaries at the same time. 

    • Immediate Interbank Payments (IIP). 

    • Inter-account transfers. 

    • Top up on data for Cell C, MTN, Virgin Mobile, 8ta and Vodacom. 

    • CashSend allows you to send money to anyone, even those who do not have bank accounts.  
      You send them a code that they have to enter at an Absa ATM to withdraw the money.

  • What is a notice of payment?

    • This is when your beneficiary receives an SMS, email or fax confirming your payment. 

    • Separate charges apply to NotifyMe

  • What is a payment limit?

    • When you first register for Absa Online Banking you’ll be asked to set up daily payment limits. 

    • Payment limits apply to interaccount transfers, payments and stop orders. 

    • The limit values are entirely up to you and you can reset them in your profile anytime. 

    • This is an important part of your internet banking security. It can potentially stop a fraudster from transferring 
      very large sums of money from your account. 

    • You will only be able to transfer money and make payments within your set daily limits. 

    • A payment limit is set independently from your account balance. You still need to have the money available to make payments. 

  • Payment lead times

    • nternal transactions made from one Absa account to another should reflect immediately.

    • Immediate Interbank Payments (IIP) allow you to make payments to accounts held at other financial institutions available immediately.

    • Payments made to external bank accounts on Sundays or public holidays will be credited the following  
      business day.

    • Payments made to external bank accounts during the week and on Saturdays follow these guidelines:

  • Immediate interbank payment (IIP) limits

    Weekdays

    Immediate and daily interbank payments of less than R5 million (five million rand)   Can be performed on weekdays from 08:00 to 14:45 The funds will reach the receiving bank immediately and will be credited to the recipient’s account according to the receiving bank’s internal process. 
    Immediate access of funds is subject to a one-hour delay for the first and second payments to new beneficiaries/once-off payments.
        Immediate and after-hours interbank payments of less than R25 000 (twenty five thousand rand) Can be performed after hours from 14:45 to 08:00 The funds will reach the receiving bank immediately and will be credited to the recipient’s account according to the receiving bank’s internal process. 
    Immediate access to funds is subject to a one-hour delay for the first and second payments to new beneficiaries/once-off payments.

    Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays
