Buying foreign banknotes/Multi-Currency Mastercard Cash Passport:

  • Valid ID
  • Valid passport
  • Air ticket or eTicket in your name (Note: You can only purchase 1-60 days before your departure date)

If you’re travelling by land to countries that aren’t in the common monetary area (South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland), you’ll need to provide your vehicle’s registration certificate

Investment account

Currency Investment Account:

  • Official South African identity document
  • Tax number
  • Absa transactional account
  • You must be 18 years and older

 

Cross-border
transactions

Sending SWIFT transfer:

  • Valid ID
  • Your beneficiary’s bank details, account number, name and residential address. Any required documentation depending on the payment type.

Sending/receiving Western Union:

  • Valid ID
  • Proof of address (for non-Absa customers)
