- You are required to bring relevant identity documents, If you are a:
- South African Resident bring your South African Identity Document.
- Foreign National, temporary resident in South Africa, bring your valid foreign passport with valid temporary permit.
- Refugee bring your Maroon Identity Document or Section 24 permit (conditions apply).
- First-time Absa customers will have to provide proof of residence, such as a utility bill not older then 3 months.
- If you are not an Absa account holder you will also be required to provide Proof of Source of Funds (such as your payslip) when sending money.
- Please note that some parties are excluded from sending money using Western Union. Please call our International Banking help desk on 0860 151 151 for alternative methods. The parties that are unable to use this service include:
- Residents of Lesotho, Swaziland and Namibia.
- Section 22 permit holders (Asylum Seekers).
- Businesses or any entity not using the service as an individual.
- Non-Residents or foreigners visiting South Africa
What do you need to receive money using Western Union ®? - Visit Absa’s selected Western Union branches where the service is available.
- Bring your Money Transfer Control Number, answer to the test question, the amount of money you expect to receive, the sender’s first and last name and the country from where the money was sent.
- You are required to bring relevant identity documents. If you are a:
- South African Resident bring your South African Identity Document.
- Foreign National, temporary resident in South Africa, bring your valid foreign passport with valid temporary permit.
- Refugee bring your Maroon Identity Document or Section 24 permit (conditions apply).
- Foreign visitor (Non-residents) bring your foreign passport with valid travel visa and reason for your visit to South Africa.
- First-time Absa customers will have to provide Proof of residence, such as a utility bill not older then 3 months.
