    What’s an unclaimed benefit?
     

    • A benefit that can't be paid to you or your beneficiary due to an un-submitted claim, or because we cannot contact you or a claimant.
    • The benefit will remain unpaid until it is rightfully claimed.
    • We will use all means to contact you and your beneficiaries or claimants. Please note this process may incur certain administrative costs and it is your responsibility to ensure that your contact details are always up to date.
    • If you nominate a beneficiary, please ensure that their personal details, address and relationship to you are regularly updated.

How to claim

  • Funeral and death claims

    Death claims

    • Email your completed Claim Form and the following documents to lifeclaims@absa.co.za:
    • Copy of death certificate
    • Copy of the life insured’s identity document
    • Copy of DHA-1663 (Notification of Death), four pages
    • Copy of the nominated beneficiary’s/beneficiaries’ identity document(s)
    • A bank statement not older than 3 (three) months, confirming the beneficiary’s/beneficiaries’ banking details
    • Copy of the letter of executorship/letter of authority
    • Copy of the appointed executor’s identity document
    • Proof of residential address not older than 3 (three) months, for all claimants
    • Police Statement Form for unnatural deaths
    • Post-mortem report
    • Body identification statement.
  • Disability claims

    Email your completed Claim Form (Absa 7341 EX) and the following documents to lifeclaims@absa.co.za:


    • Copy of the claimant’s identity document
    • Copies of all medical reports, including specialist reports, diagnostic reports and rehabilitation reports in support of your claim
    • Termination of employment letter due to ill health, issued by your employer.

    
All the copies must be certified. The claims assessor might require additional documents.

  • Critical illness claims

    Email your completed Claim Form (Absa 7340 EX) and the following documents to lifeclaims@absa.co.za:

    • Copy of the claimant’s identity document
    • Copies of all medical reports, including specialist reports, diagnostic reports and rehabilitation reports in support of your claim.

    All the copies must be certified.
    The claims assessor might require additional documents.
     

  • Retrenchment/Loss of income claims

    If you were permanently employed, please submit the following:

    • Certified copy of your identity document
    • Official retrenchment letter typed on the employer's letterhead, signed by the human resources manager or by a senior line manager and with their contact details clearly stated
    • Certificate of service
    • UI19 document/UIF certificate
    • Bank statements for the account into which your salary is paid for 3 (three) months before the employment termination date (if you have an external account other than an Absa account)
    • Bank statements from the employment termination date to at least 30 (thirty) days after (if you have an external account other than an Absa account).


    If you were a contract worker, please submit the following:

    • Certified copy of your identity document
    • Contract of employment
    • Official retrenchment letter typed on the employer's letterhead, signed by the human resources manager or a senior line manager and with their contact details clearly stated
    • Certificate of service
    • UI19 document/UIF certificate
    • Bank statements for the account into which your salary is paid for 3 (three) months before employment termination date (if you have an external account other than an Absa account)
    • Bank statements from the employment termination date to at least 30 (thirty) days after (if you have an external account other than an Absa account).

    If you were self-employed, please submit the following:

    • Certified copy of your identity document
    • Six months' business bank statements (before the loss of income)
    • Business bank statements (after the loss of income)
    • Three (3) months' personal bank statements before the loss of income (if you have an external account other than an Absa account)
    • Personal bank statements to at least 30 (thirty) days after the loss of income (if you have an external account other than an Absa account)
    • ITA34 (document from SARS)
    • Proof of registered business
    • Letter from accountant.
    • Email your completed Claim Form (Absa 2758 EX) and all documents to creditlifeclaims@absa.co.za or login onto your Absa Banking app or Absa Online Express Banking to log a claim.
The claims assessor might require additional documents.
  • Health assistance claims

    Email your completed Claim Form and the following documents to lifeclaims@absa.co.za:

    • Copy of the full hospital invoice
    • Copy of the identity document of the claimant and other life insured member, if not the main member
    • Proof of banking details [not older than 3 (three) months] if the proceeds must be paid into any bank other than Absa
    • Proof of address for the claimant, not older than 3 (three) months. Hospital file including ward notes (if applicable)
    • Paramedic report (if applicable)
    • Police report/Accident report (if applicable)
    • Hospital admission and discharge summary
    • Letter of motivation for extended hospital stay (if applicable), including:
      a) Test result and operation reports to support diagnosis; and
      b) Emergency room notes (if applicable).
