Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are other terms used in the market to describe this function?

    • View and control
    • Tokenisation and subscription control
    • Card on file manager
  • What is a tokenised card?

A tokenised card replaces your actual card number with a secure digital token that is then used during  payments on apps, on websites or with digital wallets. It adds an extra layer of security as your original  card number cannot be identified.

  • Will my card always be tokenised?

Not all retailers or wallet providers offer tokenisation. So, whether the full card number or a token of the  number is stored will vary from one service, app provider or online retailer to another.

  • Where can I see which platforms my card is enrolled with?

Open your Banking App, go to the Cards tab (at the bottom of the screen), select the relevant card, then  select Connections to view platforms where your card is stored or used for subscriptions.

  • How can I cancel a subscription or remove my card from a platform?

In the Connections feature, select the subscription or merchant and choose Disable token

  • Will disabling a token stop future charges?

Disabling a token prevents further payments via that token. However, to fully cancel a subscription, you  may also need to cancel it on the merchant’s platform.

  • What happens if I get a new card?

If your card is reissued, your digital tokens will be updated automatically on supported platforms via the  Absa Card Life Cycle Management service. You can review these updates in the Connections feature.

  • What if I stop my card because it was lost or stolen, or because I suspected fraud?

If you stop and replace your credit card because of fraud, loss or theft, or if you upgrade your card,  then Card Life Cycle Management will delete the old card from all platforms (wallets and merchants) it  has been added to, but you need to manually upload your new card details for payments to  resume.

In all other re-issue scenarios, the old card is replaced by the new card on all platforms (wallets and  merchants).

  • What if I see a token or subscription I don’t recognise?

You can disable the token immediately and report the transaction via the Banking App or by calling the  Fraud Hotline on [add number] for further investigation.

  • For which merchants/apps will I be able to view my tokenised cards?
