  • About the Stokvel Awards

    In every community across South Africa, there's a story of resilience, unity and the unwavering spirit of Ubuntu waiting to be told. Within these stories, stokvels play a vital role by bringing people together to save, support one another financially and build security in times of need.

    
 
    The Absa Stokvel Awards celebrate these achievements, recognising stokvels across multiple categories, with a chance to win a grand prize that further supports their growth and impact in their communities.


    Nominations are open until 16 October 2026 for stokvels, savings clubs, burial societies, individuals, and organisations supporting stokvels.

  • Cash prizes

    If your nominated stokvel wins, they’ll win R75 000.
     

    It gets even better, stokvels with an Absa Investment Club Account will have their prize doubled to an incredible R150 000!


    How to double the prize: 

    • Have an Absa Investment Club Account or open one at an Absa Branch before 16 October 2026. 

    • Maintain a minimum balance of R30,000 in the account. 

    • Ensure all signatories bank with Absa or open an active Absa Cheque Account (with funds) by 16 October 2026.

  • How to qualify

    • Nominate a stokvel, savings club, burial society, or an individual or organisation that supports stokvels.
    • Your stokvel doesn’t need to bank with Absa, but it must be at least 6 months old.
    • If your stokvel banks with Absa, or opens a new Absa Investment Club Account, it qualifies even if it’s less than 6 months old. Visit any Absa branch to open an Absa Investment Club Account.

  • Documents you need

    You’ll need the following documents:

    • Your ID copy,
    •  Stokvel motivation/profile, evidence like photos or publications that will support this nomination.
       

    Email them to: stokveldocuments@absa.africa

    Please ensure that all of your documents are clearly marked and subject of your email is the name of the stokvel.

Best Stokvel in Community Impact Stokvels that uplift their communities by helping others and driving positive change. This category celebrates groups whose actions go beyond saving money for themselves to make a real difference - whether through social projects, donations, or support initiatives.
Best Investment Stokvel Stokvels and investment clubs that are successfully growing their money through smart investment choices. This category celebrates groups that go beyond traditional saving to build wealth and create long‑term financial impact for their members
Best Stokvel in Financial Literacy Stokvels that actively teach and encourage financial literacy among their members. This category celebrates groups that empower members with knowledge about responsible money management.
Best Performing Savings Club Stokvels and savings clubs that save consistently and stay disciplined together. This category celebrates groups where members hold each other accountable and have successfully grown their group savings significantly over time.
Digitally Empowered Club Award Stokvels and youth clubs/groups that use digital tools to save and stay connected. This category celebrates groups that embrace technology - from online banking and apps to digital record‑keeping and communication – to managing their money easier and smarter.
Sustainable Stokvel Legacy Award Long‑standing stokvels that have sustained themselves over many years and successfully passed their traditions and financial knowledge from one generation to the next. This category celebrates groups with a strong legacy, showing true continuity, stability, and long‑term community value.
Stokvel of the Year Stokvels, savings clubs, societies and groups that have shown outstanding overall performance during the year. This category celebrates a group that excels across key areas: consistent savings, good governance, impact/member empowerment and stands out as an inspiring example of what a successful stokvel can achieve
