Transnet SOC Limited (“Transnet”) is the South African government owned operator, owner and custodian of a major portion of South Africa’s transport infrastructure. Transnet’s infrastructure facilitates economic activity and growth through facilitating South Africa’s international trade.

Teraco Deal

We are proud to have concluded a R2.5 billion transaction with Teraco to expand digital connectivity in Africa. The deal includes R2billion for a data centre construction in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and R500 million to provide liquidity and optimise capital structure for improved shareholder returns. This funding will accelerate growth in Teraco’s business, enabling them to sign up many large new clients while increasing their services to existing clients.

EDF Deal

We are proud to have acted as Mandated Lead Arranger, Hedge Bank, Agent Bank and Account Bank for EDF-R’s three wind energy projects, part of South Africa’s REIPPP Programme.

EDF Renewables (“EDF-R”), an international leader in green electricity production, is the renewable energy arm of the Électricité de France S.A (“EDF”) Group. EDF is a top French utility company and one of the biggest power producers in the world with a total installed generation capacity of 122 GW.

Lekela Deal

We are proud to have provided advisory services and financing for Infinity Power’s acquisition of Lekela Power, Africa’s largest renewables-focused, independent power producer.

Infinity Power is a joint venture between Egypt’s Infinity Group and Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) to target renewable energy, solar and wind power generation projects, on utility as well as commercial and industrial scale, in Egypt and Africa. Infinity Group’s key stakeholders also include Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Building a new standard for investing in Africa

With the bravery to imagine and the will to get things done, our Absa Nigeria team acted as Joint Lead Issuing House on the @DangoteCement deal, the largest corporate bond offering in the history of the Nigerian capital markets. The Absa Nigeria team acted as Joint Lead on the Dangote Cement Plc Deal, allocating NGN 116 billion across a 5-, 7-, and 10-year fixed-rate deal. This is the largest corporate bond offering in the history of the Nigerian capital markets.

Greening Affordable Housing with Transcend

Absa is proud to have supported and enabled the “greening” of the Transcend rental portfolio by providing a R147.5m green loan.  Transcend has Edge Certified a third of their portfolio and the remaining certifications will be rolled out in the short term. Edge Certification, the gold standard of residential sustainability measurement, ensures properties are at least 20% more energy, water and embodied energy materials efficient.
