How to play Lotto and PowerBall

Download the Absa Banking App on your smartphone from the App Store or PlayStore.
Register your profile and logon.
Select the Lotto or PowerBall option from the menu on the home screen.
Choose the game that you want to play, i.e. PowerBall or Lotto.
You can select Quick Pick, which allows the system to select numbers for you.
Or select your own numbers
- You can select the numbers of future draws
- Select the account from which you want to pay
- Confirm your transaction.
The playing cost is R5.00 per board.
Remember that you can view your played transactions under Purchased ticket and replay your previous numbers. It’s that easy!

Who can play Lotto/Powerball on the Absa Banking App?

Anyone who:

·       Is 18 years or older

·       Is a legal South African resident

·       Has a transactional cheque or savings account.

Excluded customers:

·       Operators and multiple authentication

·       Individuals with joint accounts.
What is the ticket cost?
The cost of a ticket is R5.00 for both Lotto and PowerBall games.

If the Plus 1 option is selected, an additional R2.50 is paid per draw.

If the Plus 1 and Plus 2 options are selected, an additional R5.00 is paid per draw.
Can I cancel previous Lotto games played?

Once the transaction is confirmed by the customer, the ticket purchase cannot be cancelled or reversed.
How are payouts for winnings of less than R50 000 managed?
The bank will send the winner an SMS of the winnings within two business days after the draw.

The SMS contains the reference number, when winnings will be paid and an Absa contact number.

The bank will pay the winnings into the player’s account if it is less (≤) than R50 000.
How are claims of winnings of more than R50 000 managed?
The bank will send the winner an SMS of the winnings within two business days after the draw.

The SMS contains the reference number, draw date, instructions to Ithuba, Ithuba contact number and instruction on what documents to take when visiting Ithuba.

Go to the Ithuba office with the following information:

-        Reference number

-        South African ID

-        One month’s bank statement.

I got an error while playing. Was my game successful?

You can call the Absa Contact Centre on 08600 08600 to check if your game was successful or not.
When is the winning SMS sent?

The morning after the draw.
What is the cut-off time before each draw?

The draw is at 21:00 on draw days.
The cut-off time will be 30 minutes before, i.e. 20:30.
Any tickets purchased after this time will be for the following draw.

Draws for Good Friday and Christmas Day must be confirmed no later than 90 days before such day occurs.
When are the draws?

For Lotto and Lotto Plus 1 and 2, the draw days are on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

For PowerBall and PowerBall Plus, the draw days are on Tuesdays and Fridays.
I have not received my winnings

Yes, a consultant will capture your query via the Customer Complaints Process (CCP) system.
What are the daily/monthly limits?

·       A minimum of R10.00 per draw for the Banking App

·       Daily limit of R1 000

·       Monthly limit of R3 000
Is it OK for the last number to be a duplicate of a selected number when I play Quick Pick?
In PowerBall, the first five numbers are from 1-50, and the last number is from 1-20.

This means that there is always a possibility that the last number could be a duplicate of the first five numbers, if any number under 20 was selected.
What cellphone number will be used to notify me?

We will contact you on the cellphone number that you have provided when purchasing your tickets.
Is the Lotto fee included in the transaction fee or are they separate?

The fee is charged separately and will reflect on the customer’s account statement as “Fee: Lotto purchase”.
How many boards can I play in total?

You can play up to 10 boards at a time.
