Introducing DebiCheck debit orders - the safer way to do debit orders.
DebiCheck is a new type of debit order that helps prevents unauthorised debit orders being created without your knowledge.
What is DebiCheck?
DebiCheck is a new kind of debit order which includes a verification system. This allows you to accept or reject the creation of new DebiCheck debit orders or changes to existing DebiCheck debit orders. Previously some debit orders could be set up on your account without your permission. With DebiCheck debit orders you now have the ability to:
How do DebiCheck debit orders work?
Whenever a service provider or a merchant (e.g. a gym membership, car finance etc.) creates a DebiCheck debit order on your account or changes the details of an existing DebiCheck debit order, you will be sent a verification request on your cell phone.
You can then review the DebiCheck debit order details and choose to accept or reject it. It’s that simple.
By accepting a DebiCheck debit order, your bank will now know the details of what you agreed to and will only process that DebiCheck debit order on the terms that you agreed to in your contract with the merchant.
Any changes to that DebiCheck debit order for example a different payment date or a different amount, must be accepted by you first before your bank makes the changes.
Important: We need to have your cell phone number so that you get your DebiCheck verification requests.
DebiCheck debit orders are more secure and put you in control.
No it doesn’t - your existing debit orders will continue as normal.
DebiCheck was created by the Payments Association of South Africa (PASA). PASA aims to eventually get all merchants and banks to use DebiCheck debit orders.
