FAQs

  • What is the credit card Payment Relief Plan?

Our credit card payment relief plan allows you to skip paying the minimum amount due on your credit card account for a period of 3 months. We created the plan in response to the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown to give you some financial assistance during this time.

Please note: while the payment relief plan is applied on your account, it will not reduce your owed balance and fees, credit life premiums (if applicable) as well as interest will still accrue. However, your account will not fall into arrears (if your account is in order). So, the best way to reduce your balance is to continue paying your minimum amount due as you normally would do.

  • What does Credit Card Payment Relief Plan cost?

The plan is absolutely free – no additional fees will be charged to implement the payment relief on your account.

  • How do I join the credit card payment relief plan?

If your account is up to date on payments then we will contact you via an SMS. Simply respond to the message as instructed to join the plan. If you do not receive an SMS but would like to understand if you qualify call us on 0861 222 272 (select Option 3) or go to our Payment Relief Plan web page.

  • How will this reflect on my statement?

Once the plan has been applied to your account you will notice both a credit and a debit on your account statement.  This is done so that your overall amount owing does not reduce during the payment relief period, because you have not actually made a payment to reduce your balance.

  • How will the credit card payment relief plan affect my credit record?

Your credit rating should not change as a result of the Credit Card Payment Relief Plan. Please contact us if you have any problems.

It may appear as though your monthly commitments have reduced, however, given that this is a temporary relief, we encourage you not to take on additional debt during the relief period.

  • Will I receive confirmation that the credit card payment relief plan was applied to my account?

Yes. If your application is successful you will receive a confirmation via SMS or email. If for some reason the plan could not be applied to your account, we will also inform you. You can then contact us to discuss alternative payment solutions.

  • What if I want to cancel the Credit Card Payment Relief Plan option?

You can cancel at any time, just contact us and we can stop any additional payment relief credits to your account. If the credit card payment relief plan was already applied simply make your repayments as you normally would and your balance owing will reduce.

  • What if I want to apply for a credit limit increase during the non-payment period?

We will cancel any credit limit increase which may have been granted during this period. Remember by increasing your limit you place your credit record at risk. It is best to rather have a credit limit which you can afford. Regular payments also help you maintain a healthy credit record for any future credit decisions you may need to take later.

  • What if I want to extend my Credit Card Payment Relief Plan to longer than 3 months?

Our plan is limited to 3 consecutive months commencing in April 2020. The offer cannot be extended. After the payment relief period lapses you will be liable for paying your account as usual. If you are unsure that you will be able to meet the minimum monthly repayment after your credit card payment relief plan lapses then you must contact us to discuss alternative payment options.

  • Do I need to call again in May for the Credit Card Payment Relief Plan to be applied?

No. You only need to tell us that you want to apply for the plan.

  • What if I have already missed a payment?

Just call us and we will can assist with repayment options to suit your circumstances.

  • Why am I receiving multiple messages?

Our payment relief plan applies to many of our products. The different messages allow you to select which of your products you wish apply for payment relief on. Remember while you are on the credit card payment relief plan your balance owing will not reduce.

  • What happens to all my usual subscriptions and insurances which run off my credit card?

There is no impact to these as a result of the credit card payment relief plan. These will continue as normal if you have the funds available for this. If you have an Absa credit life premium which is debited to your Absa credit card, it will be included in your Absa credit card payment relief plan.

  • When will you contact me?

We will contact you during April to offer you the credit card payment relief plan. You must respond to the SMS as instructed in order to take up the offer.

  • What if I already have a debit order due to pay my credit card?

You would need to contact us at least 4 days prior to the debit order date so we can process the credit card payment relief plan on your account and prevent your debit order from being processed. However, if you do not contact us in time and your debit order is still processed, then you may transfer the debit order amount out of your credit card. Remember interest will apply as usual to transfers out of your credit card account.
