Absa Bank Ltd (Absa), a member of the Barlcays Africa Group Ltd, is pleased to announce new senior appointments in its AgriBusiness team.
Wessel Lemmer joins the team as a Senior Agricultural Economist, with a focus on the analysis of commodities and trends in agriculture, and Langa Simela has been appointed as the Business Development Manager in the AgriBusiness Centre of Excellence.
Lemmer is no stranger to the agricultural sector, having previously served at Grain SA as Senior Economist for more than eight years and was involved in grain and oilseed market related matters affecting the sustainability of production for producers. He holds a M.Sc. in Agricultural Management from the University of the Free State and is a veteran in the agriculture industry, having 25 years’ experience in the field.
In her new role, Simela will focus on business development of the small business sector, as well as policy liaison for the agribusiness sector. She obtained her PhD in Animal Science from the University of Pretoria and has more than 15 years’ experience in the field acquired during her tenure at the National Emergent Red Meat Producers’ Organisation (NERPO), and institutions with a vested interest in agricultural development.
Head of AgriBusiness at Absa, Brienne van der Walt says the appointments will ensure that Absa remains a leading player in the agricultural market.
