What is a Cheque Card? An Absa cheque card is essentially a plastic cheque book. This payment mechanism allows a cardholder to pay for goods and services, with the funds immediately being debited electronically from their cheque account. Cheque cards require the user to sign a receipt after purchasing goods from a merchant - a PIN is not required. A cheque card is not a credit card and as such, you can only spend cash that is in your current account. Furthermore, a cheque card is not a debit card. Cheque cards can only be linked to Absa cheque accounts, whilst debit cards can be linked and issued from an Absa Savings or Cheque account. When to pay with a Cheque Card? Versatility and convenience are central to an Absa cheque card when it comes to making payments and conducting transactions. You can perform all the ATM and in-branch transactions which you currently do with your ATM or debit card, linked to your cheque account. This includes a combi facility - a process whereby you can link any of your Absa accounts to your card and access them at an ATM simply by using your cheque card. In addition to this, your Absa cheque card can be used at an Absa ATM to deposit cash or cheques. The funds will be credited to your Absa cheque account, which is linked to your Absa cheque card. With an Absa cheque card, users are free to make payments and transactions at ATM's and merchants' Point-Of-Sale (POS) terminals. Internet on-line purchases, as well as Mail-Order-Telephone-Order (MOTO) transactions, are possible too! What do I get out of it? -
Safety -
The Absa cheque card gives users the security of 'Lost Card Protection'. A compulsory facility for all card holders and at a nominal fee, the Lost Card Protection' is a safety measure formulated to protect users against the fraudulent manipulation of their cheque card when lost or stolen. From the moment of loss or theft, until you can report your card lost or stolen you are covered. Please note that no PIN-activated transactions or user negligence are covered. -
International Acceptance -
Your Absa cheque card can be used both locally and internationally, provided your card has a PIN (Personal Identification Number) encoded by an Absa branch. Internationally, you can feel free to withdraw cash at any ATM which displays the VISA or MasterCard logo. -
