Temporary or SA resident   The South African Exchange Control regulation that stipulates that loans for the purchase of property may not exceed 50% of the purchase price or valuation, does not apply to temporary residents or SA residents living abroad. However, as soon as your temporary residency expires, you will have to comply with this regulation and ensure that your loan does not exceed 50% of the value of your property.
