Considering Your Own Business

Absa has created a booklet that potential business owners can work through when considering purchasing or starting their own business.

The booklet is a guideline covering all aspects that need to be considered when starting a company. This includes advice and tips on what to, and what not to do.

The booklet is also an introduction to Absa’s Small Business Toolbox. The toolbox is made up of a number of different booklets that provide detailed advice and guidelines on starting a business.

The guide was written with input and insight gained from organisations and business owners alike. In addition to this guide, business owners may want to read some of these additional, complementary guides:

The Entrepreneurial Profile (PDF - 12kb)
Absa has compiled a short self-evaluation test for you to take. Visit the Entrepreneurial Profile to find out if you have what it takes to run a business of your own.

Adobe Acrobat Reader (link to: help centre) is required to view the packs within considering your own business.

Non-financial Risks (PDF - 109kb)

The guide helps you address the non-financial risks involved in starting your own business. It also looks at what the benefits are to you and what personal financial requirements exist.

We help you calculate how much you would have to put aside each month to meet the following commitments such as medical aid, pension, sick and holiday leave and tax which are often taken for granted.

Can You Make It Work (PDF - 109kb)

Perhaps you’ve tested yourself on the Entrepreneurial Profile (PDF - 12kb) and you feel confident in your decision. But now Absa helps you address the mechanical necessities behind making your business work. This includes your business marketing, development strategies and preventative measures.

Warning Signs (PDF - 109kb)

We look at common warning signs and prepare the new entrepreneur for any mishaps that may come along unexpectedly. We also help you create a list of advisers, consultants and agencies that will become your Business Bible in times of need.
