Prepaid Funeral Cover
Prepaid Funeral Cover is a short term funeral plan that ensures you and your family are financially covered at the time of your death. You pay the premium up front, and are covered for 6 or 12 months, depending on the plan you choose.
This funeral plan is perfect if you don’t want to worry about monthly premiums and would like to pay for cover with a single payment.
The Prepaid Funeral Cover could be the right choice if you:
- Want cover for yourself (as a main member) and your immediate family (wife/husband and up to 5 children)
- You and your spouse are younger than 60 years old, when you join
- Have children younger than 18 years old (21, if registered as a full time student)
- Don’t have a regular income and don’t want to pay a monthly debit order
- Are an Absa customer with access to an Absa ATM or Cellphone Banking
What you get?
- A choice of cover for 6 or 12 months
- Financial cover to the value of R3 000 or R5 000
- Monthly debit orders are avoided; you can purchase the cover up front when it is convenient for you
- After purchase, accidental death cover is available to your family (from the next midnight)
- A short waiting period of 3 months for death resulting from natural causes
How it works
- Prepaid funeral cover can be purchased from an Absa ATM or via Cellphone Banking
- Cover is only available for the term you choose, you can renew it at an Absa ATM or through Cellphone Banking by choosing ‘Renew existing policy’
- You will receive an SMS confirming your policy
- Within 3 days we will contact you to confirm your family details and to ensure that no underwriting is required
- All the relevant funeral cover policy documents will be mailed to you for your records
- When you funeral policy is about to expire, we will send you an SMS to remind you
How to purchase Prepaid Funeral Cover
Cellphone Banking using www.absa.mobi
- Log onto Cellphone Banking by entering your access account number and PIN
- Select the 'Prepaid' option and then the 'Purchase' option from the menu displayed
- Select the ‘Activate funeral cover’ option from the drop down selection
Cellphone Banking using *120*2272#
- Dial *120*2272# (ABSA) from your cellphone
- Select ‘Funeral cover’ from the menu and follow the prompts to complete the purchase
Absa ATM
- Visit an Absa ATM and insert your card, select your language and enter your PIN
- Select 'Prepaid' and then ‘Prepaid Funeral Cover’
- Choose to ‘Activate a new policy’ and choose your cover option
- Enter your contact details and then select a payment option
How to make a claim
- Visit your nearest Absa Branch where a consultant will help you
- Bring along your valid ID, the ID of the deceased person and the original death certificate
